Wind Symphony

The Wind Symphony is our advanced concert performing ensemble.  Student selection is by audition in the spring for the following school year.  This group rehearses and performs advanced wind band literature covering all genres, and performs at school concerts and local adjudicated festivals.  Private lessons are highly encouraged. Students will benefit from working with professional instrument coaches in every section.

Symphonic BAND

The Symphonic Band is our intermediate concert performing ensemble open to all interested winds and percussion students.  This ensemble rehearses and performs intermediate wind band literature covering all genres, and focuses on fundamental skill development.  The Symphonic Band performs at school concerts and local adjudicated festivals. Private lessons are encouraged. Students will benefit from working with professional instrument coaches in every section.

paul crockett

Director of Bands

Paul Crockett was appointed Director of Bands for Los Alamitos High School in August 2020. He is a graduate of Michigan State University where he holds the Masters of Music in Wind Conducting and was a doctoral student under Professor Kevin Sedatole. Crockett received his Bachelor of Music from Stephen F. Austin State University where he studied conducting with Professor John H. Whitwell.

While at Michigan State University, he served as a graduate teaching assistant with the 300+ member Michigan State University Spartan Marching Band, one of the finest organizations in the Big Ten Conference.  Mr. Crockett recently served as Fine Arts Department Chair, Director of Orchestras & Classical Guitar as well as Associate Director of Bands at Akins High School (Austin, TX). Prior to this appointment he served as Director of Bands and Music Supervisor for the Alamo Heights ISD (San Antonio) and Associate Director of Bands at Westwood High School (Round Rock ISD). 

His performing ensembles have received consecutive sweepstakes at both the UIL Marching and Concert Contests on the Area & State Contests levels.  His ensembles have performed at the Meyerson Symphony Center, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the Lila Cockrell Theater San Antonio.  Crockett has participated in numerous conducting seminars with Jerry Junkin, the late Frederick Fennell, Carl St. Clair, Larry Rachleff, Kevin Sedatole and has worked with renowned wind band composers including John Corigliano, John Mackey, Steven Bryant and Frank Ticheli.

Crockett has served in numerous leadership positions including Texas Music Educators Association Area D Honor Band Chair, All-State 4A Band Audition Chair, State Honor Band Chair, Region 18 & 26 Band Division Chair and Region 26 President. He is an active member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Music Adjudicators Association, College Band Directors National Association, Texas Bandmasters Association,  Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association, California Music Educators Association and is  a member of Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Fraternity.
